TRIBUTES have been paid to a Barnt Green woman who was killed in a motorway crash.

Mollie Haines, 73, died after the incident, which happened between Junctions 2 and 3 of the M40 near High Wycombe at 10am on July 18.

Mrs Haines was en route to seeing one of her daughters and grandchildren who live in Kingston-upon-Thames.

A family tribute, issued through West Mercia Police, said she would be remembered for her lovely smile, her kind and generous ways and her great sense of humour.

"She was a friend to so many people and we are very grateful for the huge number of tributes and messages we have received from people who knew her."

Mrs Haines is survived by her husband Charles, three daughters who live in London and Birmingham, a son in Ireland and seven grandchildren.

The statement added she was very much the focal point of the family.

"Losing her so suddenly in these circumstances has left us deeply shocked and saddened."

Mrs Haines was educated at St Andrew's in Scotland before she trained as an orthoptist in Oxford.

She met her husband Charles in Malta where she went to work. He was serving in the navy and the pair married in 1963.

Mrs Haines worked at Birmingham's Midland Eye Hospital for more than 20 years while her husband, who is now retired, was a consultant paediatrician at the former Bromsgrove General Hospital, Kidderminster Hospital and later Redditch's Alexandra Hospital.

Mrs Haines was president of the Blackwell Ladies Golf Club, played bridge and, keen on ornithology, she was a member of the RSPB.

She was raised in Belfast by two sporty parents - they were Irish international hockey and rugby players.

Mrs Haines played tennis for around 25 years and, prior to becoming the golf club president three years ago, was a member of the club and former captain. Mrs Haines' husband was a member of Blackwell Golf Club for many years.

Her funeral is at Redditch Crematorium on Thursday (August 2) at 11.45am.
