BROMSGROVE and Redditch AC youngsters made the most of home advantage in the opening Heart of England League meeting at the Abbey Stadium.

The event saw Jack Morley taking on the role of girls’ team manager for the first time and he was rewarded by a splendid win.

B&R AC finished second overall with the girls success and a third place for the boys in the Heart of England League Division Two in which they faced opposition which included Sutton Coldfield and Kettering.

The u17s women saw solid results for many athletes including Izzy Billau who powered to victory in the 300m in 41.7.

The 4x100m relay team of Izzy Billau, Romy Naven, Megan Greissel and Charlotte Tongue performed well and achieved second place after clocking 55.2.

First places were amiss for the u17 men but they dominated the board in second and third places across the disciplines.

The u15 girls’ strongest event of the day was the 200m where Rebekah Miller won the A race in 27.2 and Ashleigh Bevan triumphed in the B race in 28.9.

Candy Lockett won the long jump with a leap of 4.54m as well as winning the javelin by 4m with a throw of 19.09m. Bevan also won the B competition with a throw of 13.35m, while Sidney McKenzie won the shot B competition with 6.64.

Candy Lockett, Rebekah Miller, Fran Gallagher and Ashleigh Bevan then came together to gain another first place in the 4x100 in a time of 54.9.

The u15 boys fared well across events and secured another second place in the relay. The quartet of Andrew Pearson, Cam Tate, Andrew Evans-Fisher and Danny Nicholls finished in 53.1.

The u13 girls saw a tight competition unfold. Molly Turner finished second in the 70m hurdles A race despite clocking the same time as the first place Worcester athlete.

In the 200m A race the first three athletes home all clocked 30 seconds although B&R’s Olivia Worth was placed third with 30.4s.

In the javelin, Amy Mijovic-Couldwell threw a massive 12.97m to win the A competition with team-mate Amy Tongue taking second in the B competition.

Josh Pearson had a great afternoon in the u13s competition, winning the 75m hurdles (14.7), the 100m (13.9) and the 200m B (29.2).

In fact the winners of both the A and B competitions for the 200m were the only athletes in that field to go sub 30. The A race was won by B&R’s Jack Turner in 28.7.

Other successes included Dominic Gardner in the 75m hurdles B Race (17.5) and the shot A competition with a throw of 7.57m.

The youngest athletes of the day - u11s - could not be forgotten with their performances. Nicole Green won the long jump A with 3.35m and Beth Lloyd triumphed in the B competition with 2.88m. Lloyd also won the 75m (11.4).

In the 600m, Kitty Luscombe was first across the line in 2.03 and Lewis Byng won the 75m in 10.8.
