Table Top Cricket proves a big hit

TABLE Top Cricket has been deemed a great success by the Worcestershire Cricket Board after it took place at Bromsgrove School as part of the Worcestershire Youth Games.

More than 30 youngsters took part in the event which is specially adapted to allow youngsters to bat, bowl, field and score fours and sixes regardless of their disabilities.

Five area teams were selected from specialist schools across Worcestershire to compete in a tournament. The eventual winners were Chadsgove who represented North Worcestershire.

Worcestershire Youth Games organiser, Tracey Freer, congratulated the Worcestershire Cricket Board on delivering a well organised, competitive and fun participation tournament, saying: “The feedback from the area teams was very positive and without doubt the children all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. So roll on the next games in 2013.”

Meanwhile, over 50 young people from specialist schools from across Worcestershire, took part in the Worcestershire Specialist Schools Cricket Festival at Old Elizabethan’s cricket ground in Worcester.

The Festival, organised by the Worcestershire Cricket Board and supported by the Lord Cobham Trust, was the culmination of a six week cricket coaching experience programme which took place in the specialist schools.

The format for the day included fun style cricket practices that tested the skills of the young people with games which were designed to build the understanding of playing the game.

Sam Black from Fort Royal Specialist School, said: “The whole day was fantastic and all staff agreed it was a success. The children were thrilled with their gifts and most have decorated their bats already.”

Les Bishop, Secretary of the Lord Cobham Trust for Worcestershire, said: “We are delighted by the outcome of this event and even more that the trust has been able to help bring so many benefits to these youngsters through this programme.”
