THE HEADTEACHER of Sidemoor First School has hit out at the group of heartless vandals who smashed a wooden statue, which was made by the pupils, to pieces.
Catherine Shearwood said the children and their parents were visibly upset when they returned to school on Monday (July 9) after Woody, as he was affectionately known, was destroyed over the weekend.
“It’s awful to think that an act of vandalism could ruin something they had worked hard on and were proud of.”
The statue was only made last week when an artist came to the school and worked with the youngsters.
It was built around a frame for children to sit next to on one of the school benches.
Around 50 pupils had been involved in creating Woody.
Police have been informed and have collected CCTV footage of the incident.
A group of teens were seen destroying the statue and officers from Bromsgrove Police are now trying to identify them.
“It took two days to build but minutes to destroy.” added Mrs Shearwood.
