Bromsgrove MP is backing Alex campaign

BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has pledged his support to ‘Save the Alex’.

After meeting with campaign head Neal Stote last Friday (July 6), he said: “I’m delighted that thousands have already joined us in signing the petition as I’m determined to ensure that local voices are heard.”

Mr Stote hailed the meeting as ‘very productive.’

He said: “It is great Sajid is supporting the campaign and will be calling for A&E and maternity to be kept at the Alex.

“We hope his support will go some way to convincing the trust that any plans to close A&E and maternity are wrong.”

Mr Stote has been rallying Bromsgrovians to support the ‘Save the Alex’ cause all week and will be at ASDA on Market Street today (July 13) where he hopes Mr Javid will join him.

He said: “The Alex is just as important to the people of Bromsgrove as anywhere else.

“So I am really hoping the people of the town will work with us.”

Mr Stote has been encouraged by the reaction so far and expected no less after more than 300 residents turned out for a rainsoaked mass rally when the hospital was under threat in 2006.

More than 1,000 people signed The Standard-backed petition at Bromsgrove Carnival last weekend (July 7 and 8) and Mr Stote hopes to have more than 30,000 names by the end of this weekend.

Next week he will be present in the town centre on Tuesday and Friday and hopes to reach out to the surrounding communities in coming days as well.

“If you haven’t signed the petition already then sign it today” he added.
