Sue gets to be a Tudor to celebrate Avoncroft jubilee

AVONCROFT Museum's Golden Jubilee celebrations take place this weekend to mark the popular venue's 50th birthday.

To commemorate it, there will be a Tudor Living Weekend on Saturday (July 7) and Sunday (July 8).

Sue Bradford from Catshill, Bromsgrove, is the winner of the ‘Spend the night in the Museum’ competition.

She will be living like a Tudor in the 400-year-old Merchant's House over the weekend, including sleeping there tomorrow night (Saturday). Sue will be Tweeting and posting on Facebook about her experiences, as she participates in demonstrations with Tudor re-enactors.

Among the skills she, and visitors, will learn are starting a fire using a flint and steel, drop spinning and how to make butter and cheese.

Archery, authentic music workshops, dancing, children’s activities and traditional Tudor games will also be on offer to visitors as part of the jubilee festivities.

Avoncroft was England's first ever open air museum and the Merchant's House was the first building saved by it 1962, so it is fitting this weekend's activities are centred around the property.

There are now 25 buildings at Avoncroft that have been saved over the years.
