THE FUNERAL of much-loved Bromsgrove volunteer Lin Morgan who passed away last Friday (June 29) after a lengthy battle with cancer, takes place at 3pm this Friday (July 6) at St Godwald's Church.

Lin, who was from Aston Fields, was involved with fellow volunteer Chris Waldron in setting up the town's first ever summer play scheme at Charford First School in 1985.

The numbers quickly grew and the groups were then moved to the Ryland Centre in New Road.

Over the years, hundreds of Bromsgrove youngsters enjoyed a multitude of activities, including football, boxing, arts and crafts and martial arts.

Judo coach Dave Cotterill said Lin was dedicated to providing meaningful and fun things for local youngsters to do and that, with her enthusiastic personality, she had no trouble convincing many sports coaches to give up their time for free.

"Originally we were coerced into helping out, but we all had such a great time that we had no hesitation in volunteering again year after year," he added.

Lin, who worked as a childminder and in a care home, leaves behind a husband, three children and eight grandchildren. Donations at the funeral will be shared between Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Nurses.
