Chicago
Wolverhampton Grand, May 14
MAMA was certainly good to the audience on Monday (May 14) as Chicago opened at Wolverhampton Grand.
The star-studded show with a first class line-up was all singing, all dancing and interspersed with humour.
Former Hollyoaks actress Ali Bastian and Coronation Street's Tupele Dorgu shone in the lead roles of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, with a flawless performance from not only them but also fellow Hollyoaks actor Stefan Booth as Billy Flynn and Genevieve Nicole as Mama Morton (other performances will see Nolan sister Bernie Nolan take up this role).
The cast as a whole did not put a foot out of place and, while some slower scenes perhaps meant the performance lost a little bit of pace, the high-energy song and dance numbers more than made up for this.
Having the band on stage for the duration added an extra element to the show and incorporated them into the musical, making them almost characters of their own.
One thing's for sure, everyone involved really gave it the old razzle dazzle!
To book tickets to the show, which runs until Saturday (May 19), visit www.grandtheatre.info or call 01902 429212.
