HARRISON Long overcame testing conditions to be crowned Bromsgrove Golf Club’s Club Champion at the weekend.
A record number of 102 players teed off in windy conditions which were made worse by sustained periods of heavy rain but Long (74, 72 = 146) held his nerve to win his first title, finishing four shots clear of Harrison Mace (77, 73 = 150).
Long was tied with Kevin Booth (74) after the first round whilst five others were within three shots of the lead. However, he went on to record the best round of the second day to triumph.
Josh McMahon and Olli Dilloway finished joint third (152) whilst Brad Styring (153) rounded off the top five.
The Nett Title went to Paul Read (73, 61 = 134) who came from behind to overhaul first round leader Neil Wycherley (66, 71 = 137). Ade Smith (73,62 = 133) finished as runner-up whilst Gavin Forbes (68, 68 = 136) was third.
There were 23 gross ‘twos’ during the weekend, going to Dave Thompson (2), Andy Wadmore (2), Brandon Wycherley, MC Jones, Derek Mace, Chris Steel, Joe Lynch, Mike Martell, Kristian Summerfield, Ade Smith, Chris Alton, Rod Brown, Dave Parrett, Shane Henderson, Ian Barber, Harrison Mace, Brad Styring, Lee Tynan, Harrison Long, Simon Braithwaite and Olli Dilloway.
The event organisers and green staff did a magnificent job in preparing everything for the record turnout on what will be remembered as a great weekend for the club.
