THERE was plenty of traditional hustle and bustle on the High Street on Saturday (June 23) when the annual Elizabethan Fair Day was held in Bromsgrove town centre.

The event raised more than £1,300 for the St John's Church Landmark II appeal for the historic building's new roof and heating system.

As part of proceedings, there was a procession by the Court Leet from Housman Hall to the High Street where the charter, granted to the town by King John in 1199, was proclaimed.

And bailiff Martin Connellan tested the town's bread ale and leather was to a high enough standard for Bromsgrove residents.

The best stall award went to St John's Church.

Shan Moule, St John's churchwarden, said: "We were thrilled to win and it was even better that we raised in excess of £1,300 for The Landmark II appeal."
