Outgoing Rotary president receives top accolade

THERE was a special moment at Bromsgrove Rotary Club's latest meeting this week when outgoing president Ken Pheysey was presented with a prestigious award.

The Paul Harris Fellowship with Sapphire accolade was presented to him on the evening by past district governor David Butler.

He paid tribute to Ken and all he had done, both since becoming a Rotarian and during his three years as president.

When Ken took up his presidency, there were just five members of Bromsgrove Rotary Club.

Now there are 20 full-time members, one corporate member and three associate members.

David Butler said: "Ken has been the driving force behind this club for a very long time.

"There are those who grasp the nettle and do something and others who sit back and do nothing.

"Ken grasped the nettle and what he achieved is quite remarkable."

As he handed over the president's chain to Bob Foxall, Ken thanked members for their support and listed some of the causes they had helped in the last three years - including ShelterBox, Age Concern, schools in Cyprus, Bangladesh and India, the Royal British Legion and The TRUNK at Charford.

The get-together on Monday (June 25) was held at Maekong Thai, Worcester Road, and attended by almost 40 people - members from Bromsgrove Rotary Club, members from other clubs in Droitwich and Redditch and guests.

Tony and Moo from the restaurant donated the cost of the meal - £640 - to the Rotary's funds.
