Hi: 9° Lo:3° 7 day

A TOTAL of 134 arrests have been made and charges brought across the West Mercia area in the last 12 months, thanks to calls to Crimestoppers which has released its latest end-of-year statistics.
Overall, from April 2011 to March 2012, more than 2,174 Crimestoppers' calls were passed to the police across the force area.
In the year 2010 to 2011, there were 1,982 calls to Crimestoppers which went to West Mercia Police - they led to 153 arrests and charges.
And, with various campaigns to target crimes, including burglary and domestic violence, being launched, volunteers from the charity have played a key role in engaging with local residents. That has helped find out how people are affected by crime in their local area and ensured wanted criminals face justice.
Pauline Hadley is the West Midlands' regional manager for Crimestoppers, which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year.
She said: “We continue to work hard in West Mercia from Hereford to Worcester to Shrewsbury and Telford to ensure that the area is a safe place for people to live in and criminals are brought to justice."
Nationwide, the amount of information passed onto police via Crimestoppers has risen by almost five per cent.
Residents wanting to pass information to Crimestoppers can call the anonymous 24/7 lfreephone line on 0800 555 111 or via the website www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
