YOUNG people from South Birmingham spent a morning during half-term week repairing and installing five benches at Balaam's Wood nature reserve in Frankley.
The Safe Haven project, run by West Midlands Police and the rangers from the Northfield Hub, is aimed at finding positive things for local young people to do. The funding came from the Friends of Balaam's Wood LNR group, which was given a £250 grant from West Midlands Police.
And the efforts will mean there is somewhere to sit for visitors to the nature reserve in the summer holiday, when another project to build bird boxes, will get underway.
Penny Moore, the secretary of the Friends of Balaams Wood, said: "It was wonderful to work with young people who are a credit to Frankley and Longbridge - they have made a really positive contribution to the community."
