Charity celebrates 25 years in the town

THE BROMSGROVE branch of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The local charity group was started in 1988 after 17 people in the town got together to form it.

It came just weeks after Nicole Harris’ son Marc was diagnosed with leukaemia.

The branch’s chairman Nicole is now the only member of the original 17 left.

Since then, around £750,000 has been raised for the cause.

On Sunday (May 13), more than £6,100 was raised from the Leukaemia Fun Run, which was held at Bromsgrove Rugby Club.

Around 300 runners took part, including one who came all the way from Niagra Falls in Canada.

Nicole said: “We would like to thank all the past and present committee members and those who have helped fund-raise over the years.

“From such small beginnings, we have achieved so much for a worthwhile cause.

“Here’s to the next 25 years.”

The next event is the Forget-Me-Not Walk which takes place next Sunday (May 27) in Sanders Park.

It was due to be held on April 29, but had to be cancelled because of the high winds and heavy rain.

Next Sunday, walkers will be able to choose whether they do one-mile, five miles, eight miles or 12.

Entry is £7.50 for adults, £5 for children under 12 or £20 for a family (two adults and two children).
