SOUTH Bromsgrove High School pupil Fiona Clarke brought the Olympics home at the weekend when winning gold at the Special Olympics.
The year 12 long jumper, who changed her speciality sport from sprinting three years ago, not only took gold but beat her personal best with an incredible jump of 3.68m in the brand new Olympic Stadium.
Competing in a stadium that holds 80,000 people, Fiona unsurprisingly described the day as ‘petrifying’ but went on to describe the atmosphere as electric.
Whilst in London, she found herself brushing shoulders with Olympic legends Darren Campbell and Ben Rushgrove and is now awaiting selection for the Great Britain Paralympic team to represent her nation this year in our capital.
