MEMBERS of Bromsgrove’s All Saints Church are celebrating after learning the English Heritage grant for the building’s repairs will be £31,000.
It means the work, which will cost more than £100,000 in total to carry out, can now get under way. It will include maintenance to the tower, walls and roofs that will make the church watertight and preserve the interior.
The £31,000 grant is the second installment from the English Heritage/Heritage Lottery Places of Worship Repairs Grant Fund.
The first installment was used to fund the preparation work, including architect’s drawings.
All Saints’ appeal co-ordinator Tessa Carrick said: “The congregation cheered when the announcement was made during a recent service - it really is great news.
“Although we still need a few thousand more to complete the work, the builders will begin as soon as possible.
“We are so grateful to everyone who has given donations and to the grant-giving organisations which have supported our appeal.”
She concluded by saying that visitors often remarked on what a beautiful interior the church had.
“When the work is completed, the building will be open regularly for visitors,” she added.
Anyone wanting to make a donation to the funds or have a look around the church can call Tessa on 01527 873135.
