DROITWICH Tennis Club's Mixed B team saw their relegation fears increase over the weekend when beaten 4-0 at home against Worcester in the Winter League.

First pair Joe Maidment and Caroline Brookes had an excellent game against Worcester's first pair but were eventually beaten 3-6, 4-6.

Second pair Margaret Hughes and Neil Bates faired little better, going down 1-6 in the first set before putting up a much better fight in the second, losing it 6-7.

The second set of matches saw Maragaret and Neil lose against a much better Worcester pairing despite putting up a strong defence, losing 2-6, 4-6.

Joe and Caroline had a much closer game against Worcester's second pair but could not quite get over the line.

THE Mixed D team were also beaten, losing 3-1 at home against Inkberrow.

Chris Sellers and Phil Woodhouse were the sole winners, beating Inkberrow's second pair 6-2, 6-3, before losing closely in their second rubber.

Droitwich's second pair of Alison Whiteman and Nick Dickson played well but lost both rubbers, giving Inkberrow the deserved victory on the day.

With the summer fixtures meeting successfully completed last week, the new season looms large over the horizon with a record 15 teams from Droitwich Tennis Club being entered this year.
