BROMSGROVE & REDDITCH Athletic Club ladies recorded a time of 2:03:47 to finish 29th out of 37 teams who competed in the English Road Relay Association Nike National Road Relays on Saturday in Sutton Park, Birmingham.

The B&R team beat local rivals Worcester Athletic Club by just one place in this six-stage relay in which another 14 incomplete teams also took part.

As in the Midlands Relay two weeks ago, Katy Anderson ran the fastest three-mile leg for B&R as she improved her time to 18:47.

The gold medals were won by the 2011 champions Aldershot whose team included Great Britain international Stephanie Twell, although it was Twell's team-mate Charlotte Purdue who ran the fastest leg of all in 15:29.

B&R women's times (position at end of leg in brackets): Tamara Ball (40) 19:33; Katy Anderson (29) 18:47; Gemma Clay (30) 20:36; Thomasina Ball (34) 22:29; Charlotte Ball (32) 21:23; Karen Riley (29) 20:59.

Sean Bowden was quickest B&R runner on a short leg as he covered the three miles in 16:21.

Tipton Harriers won the event by nearly three minutes from second placed Leeds City, with Notts AC taking the bronze medals.
