A VARIETY of musical acts will perform in the town over the next few weeks as part of the annual Bromsgrove Fringe Festival.
The impressive array of artists have been lined-up by Bromsgrove Folk Club, keeping in with the festival’s ‘music for all tastes’ ethos.
On Thursday (April 26), Australian duo Cloudstreet, John and Nicole, will perform at Catshill Club at the start of their summer tour.
Their mainly traditional folk music features guitar and flute, along with concertina and percussion.
Bob Bignell, from Bromsgrove Folk Club, said the popular pair appealed to a lot of people and had become firm favourites in Bromsgrove over the years.
“And because of the quality of their music, their obvious enjoyment at what they do and their rapport with their audiences, are guaranteed to get booked at Bromsgrove whenever they set foot on these shores.”
Then, on May 10, critically aclaimed Canadian Al Parrish, who is the former bass player with Tanglefoot, comes to Catshill Club.
He has now struck out on his own and performs his songs on acoustic guitar, his trademark double bass, or simply sings them a cappella.
Bob said: “Al’s huge charismatic presence and boundless energy presents a varied programme of new, original material, as well as some carefully chosen covers including a couple of traditional songs and some Tanglefoot favourites.”
Both those gigs are included in the club’s new policy of free membership and half-price admission for those under 21.
Otherwise, tickets are £6 for members and £8 for non-members who, are always welcome.
Then on May 20, although just outside the Bromsgrove Festival dates, The Demon Barber Roadshow will perform at Artrix.
Support will be provided by Bromsgrove Folk Club’s resident band Fairfield.
Bob added: “The DB’s had the entire audience on their feet at last year’s folk festival and we thought that Bromsgrove should enjoy them all over again.”
Tickets for that, which are £16, can be bought in advance by calling Artrix on 01527 577330 or by visiting www.artrix-tickets.co.uk.
