A BARNT GREEN house fire which took 60 firefighters more than six hours to bring under control, began accidentally, the fire service has said.
Firefighters from nine crews from around the region tackled the blaze at the large, detached, Reservoir Cottage on Bittell Road, on Monday (April 16) night.
It broke out in the roof space just before midnight and it was 6am the following morning, before it was brought under control.
Among the crews attending the incident were two from Bromsgrove, two from Redditch, two from the West Midlands and one each from Droitwich, Kidderminster and Malvern. There was also the command support unit, environmental protection unit and platform ladder from Worcester.
When the first crews arrived there, they found a fire in the roof and on the first floor of the large property.
They called for added assistance and, along with the extra crews, the police, ambulance service, Highways Agency and a support vehicle from the Red Cross were also sent.
A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "There were no injuries, but there was extensive damage to the roof space and first floor of the house.
"Bittell Road was closed while firefighting and salvage operations continued."
