A VARIETY of exciting events have being organised by the Lickey End Playgroup to celebrate its 25th birthday.

All cash raised from the activities will be put towards new toys for the playgroup and an outdoor classroom and play area.

On April 29, to mark the start of the group's silver jubilee, the group, based in Lickey End Methodist Church, Alcester Road, will hold a sponsored toddlerthon. The one-mile walk, which is open to children, parents and other family members, will take place around Lickey End Recreation Ground.

And, in support of The Standard's Let's Get Bromsgrove Playing campaign, the group will also be running 'games from days gone by' for children to take part in at that event.

As well as that, each person sponsored for the toddlerthon will get a free meal at Lickey End and District Workmen’s Club, Alcester Road. Those will be served around 1pm after the event.

Admission is just £2 for any other family members, or children not taking part in the walk, but would like a meal at the club.

Then, on May 5 at 7pm, there will be a special 25th birthday party disco at Lickey End and District Workmen’s Club, Alcester Road.

The event, open to children, parents, families and residents, will also feature children's and adults' buffets, as well as the disco. Tickets are £4 for adults and £2.50 for children.

Lickey End Playgroup was first formed in 1987. The idea came about when a group of mums met while out walking with their youngsters in the area and discussed the lack of facilities in Lickey End for their children.

They enquired about renting a room at the methodist church for a new group and, after a number of meetings, a mother and toddler group was formed. A playgroup was also later established, along with a Rising Stars group for those in their last year of pre-school.

Now Lickey End Playgroup is well-established and registered with Ofsted, which gave it a rating of 'good with an element of outstanding'. The report also stated the group provided quality and affordable early years childcare and education for under fives.

The staff also want parents and carers who have attended sessions with their children over the last 25 years and those who have been to the group as children, during that time, to join in with the celebrations,

Playgroup supervisor Jane Arnold said: “We are really proud of our thriving and popular playgroup and we want as many people as possible to come along and join in our celebrations.

"So many people have helped us achieve this fantastic milestone and we would love parents and carers who have brought their children to the sessions over the years to come along and join in the fun.”

The popular playgroup runs four days-a -week, the parent / carer toddler group operates every Thursday morning and the Rising Stars sessions are on Thursday afternoons.
