AN impressive points return from Catrina Yang was not enough to save Bromsgrove Bears Basketball Club’s girls u16s from a 91-59 home defeat against a strong Bucks Hornets outfit.
Yang netted 27 points to help Bears’ cause but Hornets’ experience proved too much for them to overcome.
A slow start from the hosts saw Hornets take control but they gradually found their feet and they looked stronger going into the second half.
They cut the gap to 12 at one stage but Hornets pulled clear again despite Amelia Parchment and Danielle Caulwell offering Yang good support.
Jess Cooper top scored with 28 points on Sunday in the National League game against Reading Rockets which Bears lost 81-61.
Rockets went into the game with their place in the play-offs already secured but Bears, who featured a number of u16s, stayed with them, trailing by just eight points at the break.
Bears remained positive throughout the contest and produced some excellent basketball at times.
As well as her 28 points, Cooper also recorded 11 rebounds and three assists.
Dawn Hall (14) and Catrina Yang (9) also weighed in with good points.
The final game of a busy weekend saw Bears travel to Shropshire Warriors in the Local League and return with a comprehensive 102-29 victory.
Jess Cooper amassed 42 points to help Bears maintain their undefeated Local League record.
