A MEMORIAL concert is being held in honour of Alvechurch teacher Peter Rippington who died in a coach crash in France while returning from a school trip.
Award winning international artist Rob Halligan is performing at Rowney Green Village Hall on Saturday (April 21). Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
The singer/songwriter draws on his experiences of life on the streets to his work with the homeless and charities in developing countries to deliver music that challenges faith, politics and complacency delivered with a rough spirituality and brutal honesty.
Organiser Erin Green, of Bright Side Music, decided to dedicate the gig to Mr Rippington as she was friends with his daughter Amy during their first and middle school years.
“I spent a lot of time around the family and Pete was such a huge part of my childhood I just wanted to do something for him.”
All profits from the event will be donated to a fund being set-up in his memory.
A tribute book has also been created containing more than 30,000 words and all profits will be donated to a still to be nominated charity in Mr Rippington’s name.
Creator Richard Atkinson said he and his wife were taught by Mr Rippington and he had also attended their wedding.
“He inspired so many people to do what they wanted and achieve what they wanted. He was just an inspiration to everyone that was taught by him or knew him and I wanted a good memorial book to him not just a Facebook page.”
A hardback copy of the tribute book costs £20 and is available by calling Richard Atkinson on 0770 3826931, emailing email@example.com or paying through PayPal using the same email address.
Tickets for the memorial concert cost £10 and are available by visiting www.brightside-music.co.uk, calling 0754 3889758 or on the door for £1 extra.
