A DRAMATIC finish saw Bromsgrove Sporting have to settle for a 2-2 Midland Combination Division One draw against Alvis for the second week in succession on Saturday.
Goals from Chris Conway and Joe Brooks looked to have given Sporting all three points at the Victoria Ground but Alvis grabbed a share of the spoils thanks to Fabian Spence’s goal with five minutes left.
Sporting, who entertain Archdale 73 on Saturday, did not get off to the best of starts and handed Alvis an early lead when poor defending afforded Patrick Suffo time to finish calmly.
Former Sheffield United man Suffo had already forced a save out of Tom Savage before his goal as Sporting struggled to find their rhythm.
The hosts fought back strongly with James Turk and Conway going close before the latter equalised on the stroke of half time with a powerful header.
Both times showed plenty of attacking intent at the start of the second half but it was Sporting who got themselves ahead when Keith Draper was fouled in the box and Brooks made no mistake from the spot.
Alvis were not to be denied though and Spence held off his man to slide the ball under Salvage and equalise in the 85th minute but that was not the end of the drama.
Sporting thought they had won it in the last minute of injury time when the ball was forced home in a goalmouth scramble, only to be denied by the off-side flag.
