MG HAS waved goodbye to its longest serving employee who has worked at the Longbridge plant for 46 years.

Nigel Taylor, who started out as an Austin apprentice in 1965, left last Friday (March 9).

More than 300 people, including his wife Janet, gathered at the site's technical centre to bid the popular programme manager farewell, whilst another 30 joined him for dinner at The Barnt Green Inn.

The 63-year-old said: "It was an excellent send-off - it was lovely and I couldn't have wished for better.

"I've got to know a lot of people and it's amazing how quickly the time has gone."

He was only ever out of work for two months throughout his career and, despite the 'traumatic' redundancies in the late 70s and early 80s, he said it had been a 'great place to work'.

Mr Taylor said he couldn't wait to spend more time with his wife, daughter and two young grand-children.

He is now getting ready for 12 days in America and many UK holidays in the touring caravan when he returns.

He wished his former colleagues all the best and said: "I'm sure they will make a success of it."
