Mixed fortunes for Bromsgrove

BROMSGROVE Hockey Club's Men picked up a win and a defeat over the weekend as they faced a double header due to the inclement weather at the start of the month.

The weekend got off to a fine start on Saturday as they overcame bottom of the table Barlaston 3-1 but that was followed by a 3-1 defeat against league leaders Whitchurch on Sunday.

Bromsgrove dominated the first half against Barlaston and went in 3-0 ahead thanks to goals from George Adams, Rammy Arafa and Tom Jennings.

With the hard work seemingly done, Bromsgrove relaxed in the second half and Barlaston took advantage to pull one back but it proved nothing more than a consolation.

Sunday's contest was evenly matched and Bromsgrove, who fielded a slightly different side, felt confident they could get something out of the game.

They pressed hard and generally had the majority of possession but were denied a goal in the first half by a well drilled Whitchurch defence and goalkeeper.

Constant attacking play left Bromsgrove vulnerable on the counter and Whitchurch took advantage to score three times in a ten minute spell to sit comfortably in control at half time.

Bromsgrove changed their formation in the second half which provided more cover at the back and a superb solo effort from Bevan Edwards provided a consolation.
