Campaign launched to cut fly-tipping

A NEW campaign has been launched in a bid to cut the amount of fly-tipping across Bromsgrove District, which last year left the taxpayer with a £102,000 clean-up bill.

The drive, by Bromsgrove District Council, will see some 'Pretty Awful' images put on bin lorries to remind residents they should be disposing of their rubbish properly.

Research shows fly-tipping, which is illegal, hazardous and a blight on the county's countryside, is often done by companies not registered to take waste away from businesses and households.

All businesses in the district are legally responsible for their waste and its disposal and, as part of the clampdown, officers from Bromsgrove District Council will be carrying out random spot checks on firms to ensure they have adequate waste contracts in place. Those flouting the law could face a £300 fine.

Bromsgrove residents can use the household waste site in Quantry Lane, Romsley to get rid of any excess waste they have.
