Town remembers the Holocaust

SCORES of residents went along to a special service in Sanders Park last Friday (January 27) to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.

Members of the public were joined around the Holocaust memorial stone by Bromsgrove District councillors, town MP Sajid Javid and children from several schools across the district.

These included young people from Parkside Middle School, Bromsgrove North and South High Schools, Aston Fields Middle School, Waseley Hills High School and Bromsgrove School.

Readings were done by the pupils, along with Mr Javid, Bromsgrove District Council leader Roger Hollingworth and the authority’s chief executive Kevin Dicks.

The Last Post was poignantly played on the bugle, before a two-minute silence and Revielle.

Bromsgrove District Council’s civic head, Coun Caroline Spencer, led the service.

She said: “’It was very well attended and it is good to see the numbers growing every year.

“It is also good to see so many schools getting involved.’’
