A SCHEME to canvass residents’ views on what they would like to see in the new-look Bromsgrove Town Centre is now under way.

The six-week public consultation on the redevelopment of the High Street, the Townscape Heritage Initiative and the Bromsgrove Conservation Area started yesterday (Thursday).

Bromsgrove District Council is urging all residents to look over the proposals, which are being exhibited at the Dolphin Centre, School Drive, and at Bromsgrlve Library, Stratford Road.

In addition to the displays, the council’s project managers and other members of the design teams will be on hand to talk about the plans at the library from 10am to 4pm between February 20 and 22.

The information will also be available to view on a market stall on Bromsgrove High Street on February 24.

Residents are urged to ‘have their say’ by filling out questionnaires, which will include the range of options for the designs of benches, lamp posts and other items of ‘street furniture’ that will take pride of place in the new-look high street.

Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for town centre regeneration, Coun Del Booth said: “The new high street has been carefully designed to be both practical and attractive and, in combination with the Townscape Heritage Initiative, will be a real boost to our town.

“We also want to explain the Heritage project, as it involves many parts of the community.

“We want the clear benefits of the scheme to be understood, as well as what responsibilities owners and residents may have under it.

“It makes good sense to do all this at the same time as the linked High Street consultation.”

Proposals to clear the High Street will go before Bromsgrove District Council’s planning committee on Monday (February 6) and, if approved, work will begin on Tuesday (February 7) and run until March 5.
