Spa aim for more success

By Jamie Arrowsmith 29/12 Updated: 05/01 16:00

DROITWICH Spa will aim to end 2011 on a high note tomorrow by recording back-to-back Midland Combination Division One victories for the first time this season when they travel to bottom of the table Northfield.

Richard Goode’s side picked up their fourth victory of the campaign on Boxing Day with a 2-1 success at Archdale 73 and Goode is hopeful of kicking on as 2012 approaches.

“It would be massive for us to get another three points at Northfield and would set us up nicely for the derby against Fairfield on Monday,” he said.

“It was good to be in a happy changing room at the end of the Archdale game and hopefully another three points will send everybody connected with the club into 2012 in a positive mood.”

Spa went ahead at Archdale after 20 minutes when following a lengthy spell of possession Steve Pitt played a through ball to Andy Crowther who slotted past the keeper.

Crowther doubled the advantage with a superb finish after being set up by Henry Davis and although the hosts pulled one back midway through the second half, Spa held on.

“We started positively as we have done for the last few weeks and crucially got ourselves ahead in a game of few chances,” Goode said.

“It was good that heads did not drop when we conceded and we played out the closing stages quite comfortably.

“The goal we conceded could have been avoided but it did not cost us and it was nice to get the three points given we have lost a few players to them recently.”

Goode will have to make a number of changes to his side for the Northfield clash as Crowther, Luke Rainbow and Chris Cartwright are all unavailable.
