THERE has been plenty to celebrate for Bromsgrove Bears Basketball Club during a busy start to 2012.

The National League u16s girls team have played two away games, winning the first one at Wiltshire Demons by 35 points.

They visited Bucks Hornets at the weekend but were unable to secure another success despite leading for the majority of the contest.

Three members of the squad were suffering with sickness and Bucks powered through to take the lead with two minutes left.

The u16s are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Northants Lightning.

Carrying a 100 per cent record into 2012, the Local League Women’s team carried on their success with triumphs against Big Sky Ladies and Birmingham Force.

Also in action over the weekend were the u14 girls in the Central Venue League against Gloucester Jets and Shropshire Warriors.

Bears soon opened up a lead against Gloucester and won by 25 points.

The Shropshire clash proved a harder affair but Bears secured a one-point overtime victory with the winning basket coming on the buzzer.

Coaches Carys Hall, Aaron Withe and Dawn Hall are very pleased with the performances of all sides so far and are looking forward to the remainder of the season.

BEARS have also announced a new sponsor in the form of The Grapevine who will be providing kits and food for the teams.

The Bears also have teams and training for all genders and age groups from u5s sessions to ‘Lads and Dads’ sessions. For more information on training and teams contact head coach Carys Hall on 07960 256273 or Dawn Hall on 07906 402636 or dawnkhall@hotmail.co.uk.
