BROMSGROVE and Redditch has an exciting line-up to celebrate February’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans-gender (LGBT) history month.
There is an action-packed programme to mark the event and highlights include a show by 4 Poofs and a Piano, a Gay Night at nightclub Fever in Redditch and Simon Callow reading extracts from his biography.
Coun Rory Shannon has helped organise some of the events.
He said: ‘’Living in Bromsgrove and being lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans-gender is not as easy perhaps as a city, where there will be an established community.
“Events like these help folk make connections and friendships, which might not have happened otherwise.’’
Next Friday (February 3), 4 Poofs and a Piano will be at Artrix at 8pm, with tickets, priced at £17.50, and the film Tomboy will be shown at the School Drive venue at 7.30pm on February 8.
On February 11, Artrix plays host to a family and social event, with the doors opening at 6pm. That will include a Gay Birmingham Remembered exhibition, displays and information from the LGBT History Month partners.
There is a free buffet and social event with children’s entertainer, Magic Russ, from 6.15pm to 7.15pm and the film The Kids are All Right will be shown at 7.30pm. Normal film ticket prices apply.
On February 25, Simon Callow (pictured) reads excerpts from his exciting new biography at 3pm at Artrix. Tickets are £15.
Tickets and more information for those events are available by calling Artrix on 01527 577330 or by visiting www.artrix.co.uk.
Coun Shannon is also planning a ‘Pride’ get-together for Bromsgrove, Redditch and Worcester which will involve picnics for LGBT people, their friends and families.
He hopes the gatherings will take place in June and be a follow on from Cofton Park’s event, in Birmingham.
The celebration will be officially launched at a ticketed event, in Bromsgrove Library, at 6pm, on Wednesday (February 1).
Coun Caroline Spencer, Bromsgrove District Council’s civic head, will open it and tickets are free from Bromsgrove Library.
