Peacocks store future in the balance

THE FUTURE of a company which has stores on Bromsgrove High Street and in Northfield Shopping Centre is uncertain after its parent company went into administration this week.

Peacocks called in KPMG on Wednesday (January 18) after failing to agree a deal to restructure its multi-million pound debts.

Joint administrators Richard Fleming, Chris Laverty, Ed Boyle and Joff Pope have been called on to find a buyer for the popular clothing chain.

KPMG said no redundancies had been made and all stores, including the one on the High Street, would currently remain open.

Any potential closure would be a further blow to Bromsgrove’s High Street which has lost a number of big name retailers in recent years, while uncertainty continues to surround the future of Mothercare in the town.

But Bonmarche, which also has a store in Bromsgrove on the High Street and one in Northfield Shopping Centre and is owned by the same group as Peacocks, is not in administration and a buyer is being sought.

It did file a notice of intention to appoint administrators earlier this week, but knew ten days before administrators need to be appointed.
